ok so

The time is 11:34 PM on October 30. Asbel, Cheria, Hubert, and Richard are gathered in the Lhant House foyer. Pascal and Sophie are not around. Hubert and Richard just got through discussing the rules of the Midnight Game to Cheria and Asbel (the former of whom is scared out of her wits). They talk for a bit — which includes Cheria screaming at them because who in their right mind would play a game that would summon a malevolent spirit — when Pascal and Sophie pop up reporting that they're the only ones in the house and all the lights are now off. Hubert and Richard explain the rules again to get Pascal and Sophie on the same page and they ready the materials. They also agree to turn off their phones and to play the game in pairs, with the pairs being Asbel and Cheria, Richard and Sophie, and Hubert and Pascal.

The time is 11:59 PM. Everyone lit their candles, wrote their names on their own papers, and signed them with a drop of their blood (with notable hesitation from Cheria). They all agree to knock on the front door at the same time, one knock per second, with the 22nd knock landing on the stroke of midnight. They do so successfully, and follow the steps to properly invite the Midnight Man in (open the door, blow out their candles, close the door, relight their candles). They pair up and move out.

The time is 1:38 AM on October 31. Pascal is the first one to lose the game. She got distracted while talking with Hubert and failed to light her candle on time. At Hubert's insistence, Pascal quickly salts herself* and Hubert is left to proceed on his own.

The time is 1:53 AM. Richard and Sophie notice a drop of temperature and quickly make their way out of the room when Sophie senses a presence. Out of instinct, she kicks the nearest target, her kick landing on what feels to be a man's midsection. Richard panics because she theoretically provoked the Midnight Man, grabs Sophie's hand, and hightails it. Neither of their candles miraculously blow out.

The time is 2:04 AM. Cheria is the second one to lose the game. She panics when her candle goes out and quickly salts* herself, not bothering to relight her candle. Asbel is left to proceed on his own.

The time is 3:22 AM-- eleven minutes until the end of the Midnight Game. Hubert and Richard are the third and fourth ones to lose the game. Both of their candles went out and and their lighters failed to light before the allotted ten seconds, and so salted* themselves. Being the only ones left, Asbel and Sophie pair up to survive the remaining time.

The time is 3:32 AM-- one minute until the end of the Midnight Game. Asbel and Sophie both feel a presence behind them. They begin to leave when Asbel feels a hand land on his shoulder. Out of instinct, he copies Sophie and kicks the stranger on the stomach just as the alarm for 3:33 goes off. Hubert, who was stuck in the room at the time, quickly jumps out of his salt circle to turn on the flashlight (that he confiscated from Pascal before the game) at whatever Asbel kicked. At the same time, Sophie's rushing to the nearest light switch and flicks it on...

Only to discover it was Captain Malik that Asbel kicked.

The group meets up in the living room, where Malik explains he was trying to call Richard with no luck (as his phone was off), so he made his way to Asbel's house and snuck in. Asbel and Sophie both apologize to Malik, Sophie explaining that he kicked him as well, before Asbel. Malik, however, is confused: he got into the house at around 3 AM, far after Sophie made her attack, and he was only attacked by Asbel.

THEN WHO WAS PHONE?????

*surrounds his/herself in a circle of salt.
